How to Lather Your Tallow Shave Soap

Whether you're new to wet shaving or a master of the art, here are a few tips to getting the best lather out of our tallow shave soaps.

First things first, we recommend a couple items to make your shave experience that much better:

  • A badger-hair shave brush (or your wife's old blush brush will work fine too)
  • A shave mug (or any standard coffee mug will do)

Step 1: Wet your brush thoroughly. It should still be dripping wet when you put it in the soap.

Step 2: If using the full sized shave bar, put it into your shave mug and add a splash of water.

Step 3: Swirl your brush vigorously on the top of the shave soap, you may need to press down harder than you think. Continue swirling until a lather has formed.

Step 4: If you're using the travel tin, after a lather has accumulated on your brush you can wipe it on the side of your mug to collect some foam to use as you shave and repeat the swirling process. If using the full sized bar, you can stop swirling whenever your desired amount of foam has collected in your mug.

Step 5: Scoop out some foam with your brush and apply generously to your face, applying in a circular motion to create additional lather.

Step 6: Apply more as needed while you shave.

Step 7: Once done, rinse the foam out of your shave mug and remove the bar of soap, set it aside to let it dry completely and let your travel tin dry completely before putting the lid back on and storing.

That's all! Leave any additional questions or tips in the comments and browse the Texas Tallow store for our latest batch of tallow and shea shave soaps.
